1995 Holmes
I built this bike last year using a few old parts I've had since the early 90's and some others I had laying around the garage. It's got a 1" threaded front end, one of the last of the old boys. When I found the frame in San Diego a few years back it was built up complete with Landing Gear forks, generic 3pc cranks, Castillo Bars and a bunch of crappy parts. I bought the whole thing for 100 bucks. First thing I did was strip all the parts off and sell the forks to get my 100 bucks back. The Pitchforks I used I've had since 94, along with the ti seatpost and top half of the Pozi Stop. This bike rules. She's fast and loose.

1994 Widowmaker
This is my 94 Widowmaker, it's my only bike I'm a total bitch over. I found the frame and fork in near perfect condition years back after what seamed like a lifelong hunt. At the time, there were only 4 or so known to me and the guys on the vintage forums, a few more have surfaced since. For the build I was super picky about what parts to use and how I thought it should look, so I ended up taking my time. I actually rode it brakeless and with newer Comp III tires for over a year before I finally tracked down the 901's and skinwalls. It's pretty much finished now though I may find better pedals someday. And some uncut Gay Bars would be nice. More detailed/clickable photos below. Dig it!

Interview with Chris Moeller

Sorry I haven't updated in a while, things have been busy. Click HERE to read the full-length groovy new interview OS-BMX did with Chris Moeller that's focused on the early days. Look close for my in depth, highly journalistic questions dealing strictly with S&M's pornographic connections.

Vanage!

I stole this photo from Moeller. It just rules too much. It's the inside of Alex Leech's 60's delivery van from around 91. Bike, frame rack, and Bell helmet. Dig it. According to Alex, he lived in this Van on Keith Treanor's driveway. It was also used to move frames around from the painters and chromers.
I'm thinkin' by the CS bridges that those are early Holmes' for you guys to drool over.

Press Action!

Thanks to Eric at 23mag for kickin' so much ass! I now have the cover shot that goes with the article. BMXAction Nov. 1987
In case you didn't know, 23mag is the ultimate BMX archive. You can pretty much search any company, rider, video, mag,...and find all kinds of info. I've used it too many times.

Publicity!

I'm not sure, but this could be the first time S&M was mentioned in a mag. This is news from BMXAction September 1987. I haven't found anything in previous issues, and starting here is where things seem to get going. Tomorrow I'll post another cool piece of press that came two months later.

Early Holmes Ad

Before some people get confused by the sizes, keep in mind measurements weren't always done from the center of the ST to the center of the HT. Scan courtesy of PaulK!

This is the infamous Jimmy Levan ad that was later spoofed by Homeless Bikes, and then by just about every other BMX company around at that time.

BS-20 Neon

This ad ran back in 1992. Mental Jimmy's later ran another ad stating that the BS-20 was a joke, due to kids calling up wanting chopped up bolt on frames. "By removing half of the rear end we have stiffened the entire area" and "1234 Huffmonium" is still pretty fucking funny.

Riders Ready?

Some of you might know that S&M reissued two styles of the old race jerseys. Knowing they were limited edition, my fatass raced to Santa Ana the day after they came in and Chris told me I was the first to buy one. It was nice getting 1st in a race after all these years. Lord knows I never won shit at Orange Y. Maybe it's because my mom used to feed me candy in hopes that it would jack me up before the races, but by the time it was my turn to "watch the light" I was crashing before the race started. Early jersey courtesy of Clive Gosling.

DIRT Comic

FUN FACT! Remember those clips of Chris Moeller on the Jane Pratt show in 44 Something? Well, Jane Pratt used to eat out Drew Barrymore. You can look it up here if you don't believe me. Anyway, years back before Jane and Drew were tuna helpers, Ms. Pratt ran a magazine for teenage girls called Sassy which also had a spinoff mag for groms called DIRT that happened to be run by the same cats that did GO, but had nothing to do with BMX. Go figure. I don't remember why or where I got this issue back in 91, but I recently found it in storage and flippin through the pages I stumbled on this comic.

P.O.W. Flag
You Are Rotten. I took this picture last year. This is the actual flag from the P.O.W. house in Westminster, CA. If you look close you'll see that it's been Clymerized and it appears to have blood stains on it. A while back I found this link to some pretty cool old stories about the POW house days that Chris Moeller wrote in April of 94.

Dog Bites

Dog Bites was Moeller's column in Go magazine. Go is what we had after Freestylin' and before Ride and Dig. Go also employed Jeff Tremaine(Big Brother/Jackass) as art director and Spike Jonze as photographer who, as you know, later went on to become the Mayor of Hollywood. This Dog Bite is from the June 1990 issue.
